The coveted embrace to the Great Mother.
Thomas Stearns Eliot 1888-1965
“There will be time, there will be time
To prepare a face to meet the faces that you meet;
There will be time to murder and create,
And time for all the works and days of hands
That lift and drop a question on your plate;
Time for you and time for me,
And time yet for a hundred indecisions,
And for a hundred visions and revisions,
Before the taking of a toast and tea.”
From the love song of J. Alfred Prufrock
close examination:
T.S. Eliot
Born in Saint Louis in 1888. After his early studies he was admitted to Merton College in Oxford and from there his writing career began to take the form of an ascending path towards an ideal reunion with 'the Great Mother'. The awards were followed by full adherence to the English model. He was recognized as a subject of the crown, an Anglican and he began to profess conservative ideas, thus moving away not only from his the place of his birth, the land of Mississippi, and also from his friend and mentor Ezra Pound, who had always shown a certain confidence in anti-monarchic and revolutionary ideologies.
